Dealing with difficult people and difficult situations (for medical practitioners)

Date:
November 20, 2012
Time:
6.00pm - 9.00pm
Audience:
Medical practitioners who want to further develop their skills in managing difficult or unpleasant situations

Each of us, from time to time, will find ourselves in situations where the behaviour of people around us impacts on us in a negative way. This could be when dealing with a discourteous, demanding or aggressive patient, employer or employee.

Regardless of who the person with the challenging behaviour is there are specific strategies which can be used to better manage the situation with skill and confidence. Those often uncontrolled emotions of anxiety, negative thoughts, anger, lack of patience and avoidance can all be managed.

Content: • Factors creating communication problems
• Strategies to manage situations of conflict
• Managing strong aggressive emotions
• Limiting the escalation of unwanted behaviours through calming
• Options available if situations deteriorate
Location: AMA House, 293 Royal Parade, Parkville
Fee: $150 for AMA members
$200 for non AMA members
